Michigan teams lose rivalry games to Ohio State
The No. 1 Michigan men’s hockey team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 5-2 to Ohio State in Columbus in the Big Ten opener. The Buckeyes’ pressure and Michigan’s turnovers and penalties—including a too-many-men infraction that led to a power-play goal—helped turn the game, while Michigan could not overcome the deficit. Garrett Schifsky scored for the Wolverines, who entered the matchup 7-0 and had won six straight meetings with Ohio State. Separately, Michigan women’s soccer fell to No. 3 Ohio State after struggling to convert chances, and Michigan field hockey ended its season with a 2-1 loss to the Buckeyes despite outshooting them.
