Safari Restaurant Co-Owner Salim Said Gets 30 Years for Nutrition Fraud

Salim Said, co-owner of Minneapolis’s Safari Restaurant, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in defrauding a federal child-nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prosecutors said he falsely claimed to serve thousands of meals daily, using fabricated reimbursement claims in a scheme that cost the government tens of millions of dollars; investigators said surveillance showed far fewer people collecting food. Said denied the allegations at trial, arguing that meals were also delivered. The fraud was part of the broader Feeding Our Future scandal, in which dozens of people have been convicted.
