Minnesota girls basketball coach Mike Dreier is stepping down after 48 seasons at New London-Spicer, where he compiled 1,125 wins, two state championships and 22 state tournament appearances. The state’s winningest high school basketball coach plans to remain with the program as a volunteer assistant while the school seeks a successor. In Iowa, longtime Waterloo West girls basketball coach Dr. Anthony Pappas has died after battling brain cancer, months after leaving coaching for health reasons. Across nearly five decades, Pappas recorded about 680 wins and led 11 teams to the state tournament, including three championship-game appearances; Waterloo West is honoring him by naming its gym or court after him.
