Miss Monica looks 'special' to Baffert after Del Mar Debutante win
Miss Monica, a $850,000 daughter of Early Voting trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, won the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante by 6 1/4 lengths Saturday, reinforcing her status as a leading contender in the 2-year-old fillies division. Ridden by Juan Hernandez, she tracked the early pace before taking command on the far turn and completing seven furlongs in 1:23.54. Crazy Hot Mess finished second, 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Baffert’s Holmby, while Miss Monica earned $180,000 and improved to 2-for-2. The victory marked Baffert’s record 13th win in the Debutante and the third consecutive win for Miss Monica’s owners, Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman.
