Missouri AG orders Eli Lilly to halt 340B data demands
Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has sent Eli Lilly a cease-and-desist letter, alleging the drugmaker unlawfully conditioned 340B program discounts on hospitals sharing detailed prescription claims data. Hanaway says Lilly’s policy violates state law and undermines the federal program, which provides reduced-price medicines to eligible health care organizations. The dispute escalated after Lilly suspended University of Missouri Health Care’s discounts when it initially refused to provide the data; the system later agreed to submit it temporarily while reserving its legal rights. Hanaway argues the demands and loss of discounts burden hospitals and could threaten services, especially in rural communities that rely on the program.
