Whistleblower Claims Prompt Missouri Audit of St. Louis County Tax Appeals
Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick has opened an investigation into St. Louis County’s property tax appeals process after whistleblowers alleged that the system may be unfair or violate county rules. The county uses two Boards of Equalization, and investigators will examine how appeals are assigned and whether one board grants taxpayer appeals at a substantially higher rate. Fitzpatrick’s office has requested records on assignments and outcomes by Nov. 6, and state law allows subpoenas if officials do not provide them.
