Mohmand Attack Kills Two Police Protecting Polio Teams
Two police officers were killed and a third wounded when gunmen ambushed their vehicle near the Hashim Kor checkpost in Mohmand district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. Constables Zahoor Khan and Arbai Khan died at the scene; Sepoy Sabir Khan was evacuated to DHQ Hospital Ghalanai. The officers were traveling to Yakh Dand village to guard a polio vaccination team. Attackers fled on a motorcycle. Police cordoned the site and launched a search. No group claimed responsibility. Separately, four polio workers—Qadeer Khan, Usman Khan, Umair and Sameer—were abducted at gunpoint Monday in Jivus village, Tank district. Security forces began a cordon-and-search across rural tracts and exit routes. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi called the Mohmand attack intolerable, said the policemen were performing security duty for our healthy future, and said those involved in the firing deserve no leniency. KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi termed the Tank abduction extremely regrettable and condemnable, said workers perform a national duty to protect children and promote a healthy Pakistan, called such attacks against humanity and the national interest, and directed immediate and effective measures for recovery. The incidents came during a nationwide campaign targeting about 24 million children in 97 high-risk districts; KP aimed to vaccinate 4.8 million children under five across 27 districts with 20,772 field teams and about 30,000 security personnel. Pakistan reported its eighth polio case of 2026 on Sunday, a 13-month-old girl from Khyber. SATP records at least 47 attacks on polio workers in KP since 2020. Responsibility remained unclaimed.
