Mom who plowed truck onto youth soccer field, killing 2 in Kansas, released without charges or explanation
A 34-year-old mother was released without charges after being held over the weekend. On Saturday her Chevrolet pickup moved from a parking space onto the soccer field at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas, striking people and killing Adrian Cole, 6, and Nicholas Schafer, 35, both from McPherson and unrelated. About 10 others ages 5 to 68 were injured. Two of her children were in the truck; a third played on another field. Other parents pulled her out as she said, "Oh my God, Oh my God, what have I done?" Civilians gave life-saving aid before first responders arrived. Police Chief Joe Sullivan said hearts are with the families of Adrian and Nicholas and that a day of children playing soccer ended in tragedy. Police said no charges have been filed at this time and investigators continue working to determine the circumstances. They interviewed more than 30 witnesses, including the children in the truck, and consulted prosecutors. Toxicology and a mechanical vehicle probe are ongoing. The city canceled all events at the complex. Kansas Youth Soccer called the event devastating.
