Monzo-Nubank talks could value Monzo at £10bn
Nubank is in preliminary talks about acquiring UK digital bank Monzo, a deal that could value Monzo at £8 billion to £10 billion. Monzo's board is weighing that option against a new funding round valuing the company above £8 billion, with proceeds intended for mainland Europe expansion. No deal has been finalized. For the year ended March 31, Monzo reported pretax profit of £87.3 million, up from £60.5 million, and revenue of £1.7 billion, up from £1.2 billion. An October 2024 employee share sale valued Monzo at £4.5 billion; investors included Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC and StepStone Group. Nubank's parent Nu Holdings is listed on the New York Stock Exchange with a market capitalization of about $65.5 billion. CONTESTED: The wire summary states Monzo has about 16 million customers; streamlinefeed describes a ten-million-customer base. The talks remain early-stage, with the choice between a sale and a capital raise still open.
