Murkowski Endorses Democrat for Alaska Governor
Sen. Lisa Murkowski endorsed Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins for Alaska governor on Oct. 27, 2026, one week before Election Day. In a statement released by Kreiss-Tomkins's campaign, Murkowski said our future is too important to be hamstrung by partisan divisions and that Jonathan understands governing requires listening to people with different perspectives and finding common ground. She told Alaska News Source she has found fault with the Dunleavy administration for leaving federal money on the table. Kreiss-Tomkins, a former state lawmaker who represented Sitka for a decade, said he is honored to have her support and that Alaskans deserve a government that can work through disagreements. His running mate is Anchorage Assemblyman Zac Johnson, an independent. The four-way race replaces term-limited Gov. Mike Dunleavy. A September New York Times/Siena poll showed Kreiss-Tomkins at 40 percent, Bernadette Wilson at 20 percent, Dave Bronson at 15 percent and Treg Taylor at 11 percent. President Trump endorsed Wilson earlier in October and urged Bronson and Taylor to drop out. Trump has called Murkowski the Republicans' Worst Senator and a DISGRACE to Alaska and our Country. Murkowski previously endorsed Mary Peltola in her 2024 House bid and is backing Dan Sullivan against her. Frank Murkowski and former governors Tony Knowles and Bill Walker also endorsed Kreiss-Tomkins.
