Musk Says $985 Billion Fortune Will Fund Foundation
Elon Musk says most of his fortune would go to his foundation, supporting goals such as making life multiplanetary and improving sustainability, and argues that future advances in AI and robotics could make money less important. At the same time, SpaceX and Tesla are discussing a possible merger that could unite satellite communications, AI computing, energy, electric vehicles and robotics under one corporate umbrella; an NPR interview with Kara Swisher questioned the business rationale, citing Tesla’s competition and uncertainty about sustained AI demand. Swisher also raised concerns about Musk’s political influence and the reported Starlink service slowdown affecting Ukrainian forces, while noting that U.S. officials disputed having requested or known about the restriction in advance. In a separate opinion piece, Steve Schmidt criticized Musk as attention-seeking and argued that he takes credit for employees’ achievements, citing reports that engineers changed X’s systems to boost Musk’s posts.
