Myanmar Delivers King’s Books to Detained Suu Kyi
Myanmar’s military-backed government says it delivered two books, a sealed envelope and diplomatic correspondence from King Charles III to detained former leader Aung San Suu Kyi, and released rare photographs of her receiving them. The books focus on soil, gardening and the environment, subjects long championed by Charles, who met Suu Kyi in 2017. The brief encounter offers a rare glimpse of Suu Kyi, whose health and whereabouts have been difficult to verify since the military ousted her government in 2021. The government provided no details about the correspondence or what was discussed; the delivery comes as coup leader Min Aung Hlaing seeks to ease Myanmar’s international isolation.
