NASCAR allows front brake changes at Phoenix after failures
NASCAR will let Cup Series teams replace front brake pads and rotors after Saturday’s practice and qualifying at Phoenix, a change from rules that could have sent teams changing those parts to the rear of the starting field. The move follows brake failures at Gateway and addresses concerns about Phoenix’s demanding braking conditions under a higher-horsepower, lower-downforce package. Teams may change only front pads and rotors; they can inspect rear rotors during Sunday’s pre-race adjustments, with any issues handled case by case. NASCAR says the procedure will also be used at Martinsville.
