Nebraska Reports 90,093 Early Votes, Tight Races

Nebraska’s 2026 midterm contests are drawing attention as early voting proceeds and several races appear more competitive than expected. The state had reported 90,093 votes cast, mostly by mail, while polling put independent Senate candidate Dan Osborn within the margin of error of incumbent Pete Ricketts. In the 1st Congressional District, Republican Rep. Mike Flood highlighted housing legislation and said he would focus on affordability, Middle East conflicts and artificial intelligence; Democratic challenger Chris Backemeyer emphasized public service, economic concerns and working across party lines. President Donald Trump was also scheduled to hold a midterm campaign rally in Grand Island on Oct. 5.
