Nebraska lineman Mac Markway retires after recurring knee injuries end comeback
Nebraska defensive lineman Mac Markway announced his retirement from football after recurring knee injuries ended his comeback shortly after the season opener against Ohio. The former four-star tight end began his college career at LSU before transferring to Nebraska, switching to defense and battling through multiple season-ending injuries, including torn ACLs. Markway said his knees no longer allowed him to play at the level he wanted, but that he felt at peace with the decision after giving everything to the sport. He plans to remain around Nebraska’s football facility and help teammates and coaches in another role. Coach Matt Rhule and Markway’s teammates have praised his perseverance and character throughout his recovery.
