Netflix Seeks FIFA Talks Over 2030 World Cup
Netflix is expanding aggressively into live sports after early technical failures, including disruptions during the 2023 Love Is Blind reunion and a 2024 boxing event that attracted far more viewers than expected. The streamer has since secured rights to WWE’s Monday Night Raw, NFL and MLB games, boxing, concerts and other live events, with five NFL games planned for 2026 and substantial spending on sports programming. Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters says the company has worked to develop the infrastructure needed to handle audiences watching simultaneously, though upcoming high-profile events remain major tests of its streaming capacity. The company is also considering a conversation with FIFA about potentially bidding for the 2030 men’s World Cup, a move that would extend its global sports strategy beyond U.S. programming; no formal rights process has begun, and Fox holds the U.S. English-language rights through 2026.
