Nevada Democrats Elect Edgar Flores as Senate Majority Leader
Nevada Senate Democrats have elected Las Vegas state Sen. Edgar Flores as majority leader for the upcoming legislative session, succeeding Nicole Cannizzaro, who is set to become attorney general. Flores, an immigration attorney who previously served in the Assembly, said he would focus on issues affecting working-class residents, including housing and health care costs, public-school funding, worker protections and economic opportunity. Democrats will enter the session with control of state government after election gains, and Flores and caucus leaders plan to organize committees and set their legislative agenda ahead of the session’s February start. Flores’s record also includes a DUI case stemming from a 2025 incident; it was resolved after he entered a no-contest plea and completed requirements.
