New Michigan assistants get crash course in MSU rivalry intensity

New Michigan assistants Alex Whittingham and Koy Detmer Jr. are getting an introduction to the intensity of the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry ahead of the teams’ Paul Bunyan Trophy matchup. Former Wolverine Jon Jansen shared the rivalry’s history, while Michigan State transfer Aisea Moa gave Michigan’s linebackers insight into how the Spartans view the game. Whittingham and Detmer draw on their own experience with the Utah-BYU rivalry, and say the matchup’s physicality and importance extend beyond the teams’ records. On the Michigan State side, center Trent Fraley has also related the stakes to a rivalry from his youth football days.
