New Mexico Flood Rescues Save People, Livestock
Flooding across New Mexico has prompted coordinated rescues of residents and animals by state and local responders and Oklahoma’s swiftwater team. In Socorro County, New Mexico National Guard members and Oklahoma Task Force 3 evacuated three adults and 80 animals, including 78 goats, from the Rio Grande floodwaters; the Tulsa team also helped stranded cows reach dry ground and continued caring for them. New Mexico State Police reported rescuing 10 people and four dogs by helicopter since Oct. 23, while Tulsa’s team said its broader operation had rescued 13 people and numerous animals and recovered one person who died in the flooding.
