New Mexico Paralegal Charged After Record Fentanyl Seizure
Federal agents say they seized nearly 44 kilograms of fentanyl powder from the Albuquerque home of Angel Ramirez, a 45-year-old paralegal recently hired by the New Mexico Department of Justice, in what authorities describe as the largest fentanyl powder seizure in the state’s DEA history. Investigators also reported finding fentanyl pills, heroin, cash and about 29 firearms. Ramirez faces federal charges of possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute and using or carrying a firearm in connection with drug trafficking. Prosecutors allege she used her government position and access to create a veneer of legitimacy for a drug distribution operation; if convicted, she faces at least 15 years and up to life in prison. The state said she was terminated after her arrest.
