New Mexico Renews Statewide Syphilis Testing Order

New Mexico’s fall events calendar includes SocorroFest, a free two-day music and arts festival, Albuquerque’s Fermentation & Fungi Fest, concerts by the New Mexico Philharmonic and guitarist Coco Montoya, and a new GallupARTS exhibition. The state Department of Health has renewed an order requiring syphilis testing for people ages 18 to 50 and expanded testing during pregnancy, including at delivery, as officials work to reduce congenital syphilis; rates fell 32 percent from 2023 to 2025 but remain well above the national level. A new cookbook by Cheryl Alters Jamison and the owners of Santa Fe’s Plaza Café combines more than 90 recipes with the restaurant’s 75-year history and dishes including enchiladas, Frito pie and green chile apple pie.
