New Sense and Sensibility Adaptation Champions Sisterhood

A new film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility centers on the sisterhood and self-discovery of Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles. Director Georgia Oakley said the sisters are portrayed as learning from and complementing one another, rather than being confined to the novel’s traditional “sense” and “sensibility” roles. Their contrasting approaches to love create conflict while ultimately strengthening their bond as they navigate romance, heartbreak, family pressures and social expectations. The cast, including Fiona Shaw, Herbert Nordrum and Bodhi Rae Breathnach, described strong off-screen camaraderie that reinforced the film’s themes of connection and mutual growth. The adaptation is scheduled for a global cinema release in late September.
