Tallahassee's New Commission Eyes Poverty, Housing and Infrastructure
Tallahassee’s incoming city commission, led by Mayor-elect Jeremy Matlow and including newly elected Seat 3 commissioner P.J. Perez and returning Seat 5 commissioner Dianne Williams-Cox, is expected to bring a change in leadership and decision-making after years of closely divided votes. Matlow has emphasized addressing poverty and utility costs and improving infrastructure, while Williams-Cox has named public safety, housing and infrastructure as priorities; Perez campaigned on affordability, neighborhood improvements and curbing urban sprawl. Residents hope the new commission will offer greater unity and transparency, though activist Delaitre Hollinger noted that progressive leadership has precedent in Tallahassee and that many decisions under the previous commission were unanimous. The incoming officials have also stressed listening to residents and bringing communities together as they take office.
