Newsom offers sailors mental-health care after 321-day deployment
California Gov. Gavin Newsom is offering mental health services to sailors and Marines returning to San Diego aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, along with support for their families, through the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinics at Veterans Village of San Diego. The carrier’s crew is returning after an extended Middle East deployment supporting U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iran. The services are part of California’s Veterans Health Initiative, which launched in 2024 with up to $38 million for community-based outreach, clinical care, case management and peer support. State officials say the initiative is expanding access to timely, culturally responsive care for veterans and military families.
