NextEra Q2: EPS beat despite revenue miss; backlog up
NextEra Energy reported a second-quarter adjusted EPS of $1.15, beating the consensus estimate of $1.11, while revenue of $7.53 billion missed expectations of about $8.15 billion. Florida Power & Light posted net income of $1.41 billion, up 10.2% year over year as regulatory capital employed rose about 9.3%. The utility unit is attracting interest from hyperscale data centers, with management citing about 21 gigawatts of potential large-load opportunities and 12 GW already in substantive negotiations. NextEra Energy Resources delivered a 66.2% jump in quarterly net income to $1.63 billion, while renewables backlog grew by 3.6 GW to roughly 35.1 GW in total. Management indicated that at least one major contract under the large-load tariff is expected to be finalized before year-end. The company reaffirmed its full-year adjusted EPS guidance of $3.92 to $4.02 for 2026.
