NFL Issues Week 1 Fines Across League

NFL Week 1 featured several notable disciplinary developments and a major comeback. Cowboys running back Javonte Williams was fined $11,941 for taunting Giants safety Tyler Nubin during a touchdown run, an infraction that pushed Dallas’ extra point back and contributed to its 28-20 loss; Williams apologized to teammates. Texans defensive lineman Mario Edwards was fined $8,923 for roughing Bills quarterback Josh Allen on a low hit in Buffalo’s 36-31 victory, while three other Houston players received fines for uniform violations. Patrick Mahomes returned from the ACL and LCL injuries that ended his 2025 season and led Kansas City to a 31-10 win over Denver with three total touchdowns. The NFL was also reviewing a hit by Broncos linebacker Nik Bonitto that appeared to make helmet contact with Mahomes, though no penalty was called during the game.
