NFL, SEC acknowledge football officiating errors
Football officiating came under scrutiny after the NFL acknowledged that a late pass-interference penalty against the Rams in their loss to Denver was incorrect, though coach Sean McVay said the team must move on. A disputed replay in the Packers-Falcons game also drew attention: officials changed an initial fumble ruling on Jordan Love to an incomplete pass, allowing Green Bay to retain possession. Separately, the SEC said officials incorrectly allowed Tennessee’s late onside kick against Texas; the play should have brought a five-yard penalty and a replay of the kick, though the Volunteers ultimately failed to score on the possession.
