Nigeria says troops killed 48 fighters repelling Boko Haram attacks
Nigerian forces backed by air support repelled attacks by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on military positions in Borno and Yobe states, including a military training school in Buni Yadi. The military said 48 insurgents were killed in the engagements, which included a five-hour counteroffensive, and troops recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition. One soldier was killed and two others were wounded, according to the military. The clashes come amid a recent rise in attacks in the region, where security forces have fought a long-running insurgency.
