No. 2 Wisconsin routs Notre Dame 7-1

No. 2 Wisconsin opened Big Ten play with a 7-1 win over Notre Dame in Madison, scoring twice in the first five minutes and building a 4-0 lead by the second intermission. Senior Evan Werner scored Notre Dame’s lone goal on a third-period power play, his fourth of the season. The teams were scheduled to meet again Saturday; Wisconsin had swept all four of last season’s matchups with the Irish.
