North Dakota Turnout Hits 50-Year Low
North Dakota’s 2026 general election drew 239,488 ballots, with turnout reported at about 39.8% to 39.9% of eligible voters—the state’s lowest general-election turnout in 50 years, below the previous low of 43% in 2022. Unofficial figures show that 43.4% of ballots were cast early or by mail, while 56.6% were cast on Election Day. Secretary of State Michael Howe thanked poll workers and said he hoped more residents would participate in future elections; results remain unofficial pending county and state canvassing later in November.
