North Dakota unveils first life-size Gandhi statue
North Dakota unveiled its first life-size statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Peace Park in Bismarck, a project supported by India’s Seattle consulate, the North Dakota Trade Office and the Indian-American community. State officials and community members attended the ceremony, where students performed Gandhi’s favorite hymns. Indian Consul General Prakash Gupta said Gandhi’s message of nonviolence remains important amid global conflict, while state Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring called the monument a symbol of peace and growing ties between India and North Dakota.
