Northeast Lighthouses Showcase History, Coastal Views
Several notable East Coast lighthouses offer scenic destinations for travelers. Montauk Point Lighthouse at Long Island’s eastern tip combines ocean views with the character of a working fishing town, while New Jersey’s Barnegat Lighthouse—known as “Old Barney”—stands where Barnegat Bay meets the Atlantic and rewards visitors who climb its spiral staircase. On Cape Cod, Nauset Lighthouse is a prominent landmark within the protected Cape Cod National Seashore, reached by a path through coastal dunes. Maine’s Portland Head Light, the state’s oldest lighthouse, sits amid cliffside trails and historic fortifications, with a nearby viewpoint offering a view of six lighthouses.
