Norway Recovers $2.65 Million in Stolen Silver Coins

A tip about a swerving van led Norwegian police to recover nearly 67,000 American Eagle silver coins worth about $2.65 million during traffic stops near Oslo in April 2025. The coins were allegedly purchased with proceeds from a major U.S. investment fraud and hidden in Norway as part of a money-laundering scheme. The discovery followed the recovery of another 79,500 coins in 2019 during an investigation requested by U.S. authorities. Three Norwegians—two men and a woman—were convicted of aggravated money laundering and sentenced to up to 2½ years in prison, while two Britons were acquitted. The verdict remains subject to appeal, and officials said the recovered assets can be returned to the unidentified U.S. victims after the legal process concludes.
