Novo says Wegovy trial moved 40% of young children out of obesity

Novo Nordisk said its phase 3 STEP Young trial found that once-weekly semaglutide, marketed as Wegovy, significantly reduced BMI in children ages 6 to under 12 with obesity when combined with diet and physical activity. After 68 weeks, 40.4% of treated children were no longer classified as obese, compared with none of those receiving placebo; 165 children participated, and more than 85% had severe obesity at the start. The company reported no new safety concerns, including issues involving growth or pubertal development, though detailed results are expected in November.
