NPR Culture Editor Rose Friedman Dies at 38

Rose Friedman, an NPR editor and reporter who helped shape the network’s arts, books and culture coverage for 15 years, died of cancer at her New York City home on Sept. 17 at age 38. She co-created NPR’s annual Books We Love guide, edited book reviews and cultural features, and most recently helped lead the network’s America 250 series. Friedman also reported on the 2020 Harvey Weinstein trial and edited coverage of the #MeToo movement. As a SAG-AFTRA shop steward, she considered helping NPR expand paid parental leave her proudest achievement. She is survived by her partner, two children, parents and two sisters.
