NVIDIA, MediaTek Expand AI Platform Ties; $3.5B Reported
Nvidia and MediaTek expanded their collaboration with Nvidia investing $3.5 billion in MediaTek via convertible bonds to help fund next-generation AI computing platforms spanning data centers, edge devices, and automotive applications. MediaTek will adopt Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion to enable the design of custom XPUs that plug into Nvidia’s rack-scale AI infrastructure and software stack. The partnership includes continued development of RTX Spark and DGX Spark chips for consumer PCs and enterprise AI workloads, while also targeting AI-enabled automotive cockpits and software-defined vehicles. Nvidia’s investment underscores a broader ecosystem strategy to back partner chipmakers as a path to scale AI silicon and software across multiple markets. Analysts are watching for potential circular financing concerns as Nvidia extends financial backing to collaborators within its platform. The agreement signals MediaTek’s push into data-center AI chips, supported by a multi-billion financing runway and joint product roadmaps slated for deployment in the coming years.
