Nvidia Plans 2GW Australian AI Expansion

Nvidia plans to more than double Australia’s data-center computing capacity by 2027 through partnerships with Firmus, CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk, targeting up to 2 gigawatts of AI-related capacity compared with the country’s current 1.6 gigawatts. The expansion will use Nvidia’s DSX platform to provide computing for startups, researchers, enterprises and developers building AI models, applications and agents. Australian AI cloud provider Sharon AI is separately scaling its planned infrastructure to as many as 68,000 Nvidia GPUs as part of the broader national buildout. The investments come as Australia seeks to attract data-center development and strengthen its AI sector, while regulators and communities raise concerns about the facilities’ substantial energy and water use.
