NYCFC, Atlanta United Set for Playoff-Stakes Match

New York City FC hosted Atlanta United at Citi Field on Wednesday, Oct. 28, in a consequential MLS match with both teams’ playoff hopes hanging by a thread. Atlanta, 14th in the Eastern Conference, faced elimination with a loss or draw, and could still be knocked out with a win depending on results involving the New York Red Bulls and Columbus Crew. NYCFC, 12th, had won just once in its previous 14 matches and was also at risk of missing the postseason; its elimination scenarios depended on the match result and those same rivals’ results. Both sides entered in poor form, and their late-September meeting ended 2-2. The match was available to stream on Apple TV.
