Ohio State beats Michigan, ties win streak record

Ohio State opens its 2026-27 men’s basketball season Monday against No. 25 BYU in Salt Lake City, seeking an early win over a ranked opponent after not beating one until mid-February last season. The matchup is the teams’ first meeting since 1997 and only the fourth time the Buckeyes have opened a season against a ranked team. Coach Jake Diebler highlighted BYU’s scoring depth and said Ohio State must improve its rebounding after losing the rebounding battle in both preseason exhibitions, while maintaining its defensive principles and adjusting during the game.
