Ohio State Disputes DOJ Admissions Bias Finding
The Justice Department alleges that Ohio State University’s College of Medicine discriminated against white and Asian applicants in admissions for the 2023–2025 classes, favoring Black and Hispanic applicants in violation of federal law and the Supreme Court’s ruling against race-based admissions. The department points to admissions reviewers who could see applicants’ race, disparities in admission rates, and a separate pathway that allowed some candidates to be admitted without standard screening or interviews; it also raises concerns about the use of socioeconomic factors as racial proxies. Ohio State strongly disputes the findings, saying it does not consider race or other protected characteristics in admissions and is complying with the law. The DOJ has asked the university to reach a voluntary resolution and says it may pursue legal action if no agreement is reached.
