Oklahoma routs UTEP 51-0, sets up matchup with No. 16 Michigan
No. 10 Oklahoma opened the 2026 season with a dominant 51-0 victory over UTEP, scoring on its first eight possessions and limiting the Miners to 198 yards. Quarterback John Mateer completed 11 of 17 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns, while Isaiah Sategna contributed a touchdown reception and an 88-yard punt return among his 215 all-purpose yards. Lloyd Avant added 79 rushing yards and a touchdown as Oklahoma ran for 170 yards, an encouraging improvement for a ground game that was a concern entering the season. UTEP missed all three of its field-goal attempts, and Oklahoma’s defense forced a third-quarter fumble that led to another score. The Sooners next travel to face No. 16 Michigan.
