Car strikes group of cyclists in Wake County, killing one and injuring 20

A car struck a group of about 30 cyclists on Optimist Farm Road near Talicud Trail in Wake County around 9:40 a.m. Saturday, killing one cyclist and injuring 20 others. Seven cyclists suffered serious injuries and were taken to a trauma center, while 13 others received treatment for less serious injuries. Authorities say the driver’s vehicle later crashed into a ditch, and impairment is suspected; the North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating. The cyclists were members of the Capital Cycling Club and regularly rode the route.
