Orange County Woman Faces Federal Animal-Crushing Charge

Hanh Minh Nguyen, 75, of Anaheim, has been federally charged with animal crushing after prosecutors alleged she lured a 9-month-old pit bull mix, Blackey, with food beneath her minivan and ran over him in Santa Ana. Surveillance video reportedly captured the incident, and an autopsy found the puppy died of a crushed skull and suffered severe pain before his death. The federal felony, brought under the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act, carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison; Nguyen also faces animal-cruelty-related charges in Orange County. She is expected to appear in federal court in Santa Ana in the coming weeks.
