Oregon Freshman Hampton Charged With Felonies in Police Chase
Oregon freshman wide receiver Messiah Hampton was arrested Friday and charged with two felony counts of attempting to elude police and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving. The charges stem from an Oct. 18 high-speed chase in Springfield involving two vehicles; police identified Hampton as the driver of one and are still trying to identify the other driver. Hampton was released from custody and listed as out for Oregon’s game against Northwestern. Police say fellow Oregon players Evan Stewart, who was arrested separately on a DUII charge, and tight end Jamari Johnson, who was cited for speeding, are not suspects in the chase case.
