Oregon Sanctions Girls Flag Football, 25th State
Oregon’s Delegate Assembly has approved girls’ flag football as an officially sanctioned high school activity, with the first sanctioned season scheduled for spring 2027 after two years as an emerging activity. Oregon is the 25th state to sanction the sport, which has grown locally from eight schools in 2023 to 57 varsity teams and more than 1,400 players. The Seattle Seahawks have supported the sport with funding and equipment, while Nike has pledged home and away jerseys for varsity teams in the inaugural season. Girls’ flag football is also set to be featured at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
