Orfi Becomes Youngest Women’s Squash World No. 1

Egypt’s Amina Orfi has become the youngest women’s world No. 1 in squash at 19 years and two months, surpassing New Zealand’s Susan Devoy, who set the previous record in 1984. Orfi reached the top after defeating compatriot Hania El Hammamy in a dramatic 107-minute final at the Qatar Classic in Doha, ending El Hammamy’s 11-month reign and earning her first Platinum title. The milestone follows Orfi’s achievement in May as the youngest women’s world champion, capping a remarkable year for the Egyptian teenager. She said she hopes to remain atop the rankings, retain her world title and qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where squash will make its debut.
