Orlando Halloween shooter gets consecutive life sentences for 2024 attack
Jaylen Edgar, who was 17 when he fatally shot two people and wounded seven others at a Halloween gathering in downtown Orlando in 2024, was sentenced to life in prison. He was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder; the judge imposed consecutive life sentences for the killings and a concurrent life sentence for the attempted murders. Because of his age at the time, he was not eligible for the death penalty, and he may be eligible for sentencing review after 25 years. The victims’ parents described their loss in court, while Edgar apologized for the pain and trauma caused by the shooting.
