Oxford United Withdraws ‘United 93’ Range, Apologizes

Oxford United apologized after releasing a Campus Collection featuring American football and baseball jerseys marked “United 93,” an apparent reference to the club’s founding year of 1893 but also the call sign of the plane hijacked and crashed during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The club said the apparel was launched without understanding its historical associations, accepted responsibility for inadequate due diligence, withdrew the collection immediately and began reviewing its approval procedures. The product launch page was also removed.
