Advocates Say Brands Fall Short on Heat Safety Pledges for Pakistan Workers
Extreme heat, worsened by climate change, is making garment factories in Karachi dangerous for workers, who report sweltering conditions, few or no heat-safety measures, and health problems including fainting. One worker, identified only by her surname, collapsed after a supervisor told her to keep working; workers also said heat-related illness often cost them wages. The factories make goods for global brands, but labor advocates and experts say companies’ worker-safety commitments are falling short.
