Palm Bay Flooding Prompts Shelter Advisory, Water Shutoff
Severe flooding in Palm Bay inundated homes and roads after a canal overflowed, forcing homeowner Ty Hayes and his family to escape as part of Fallon Boulevard collapsed and vehicles were swept into a sinkhole. The city urged residents to shelter in place, avoid unnecessary travel and conserve water; a water-main break also cut service to some neighborhoods, with a precautionary boil-water notice planned once service is restored. Florida health officials separately warned residents and visitors to stay out of floodwaters, which can cause drowning and carry contamination, and advised thorough handwashing and care for wounds exposed to the water.
